About the Federation of Asia-Pacific Retailers Associations (FAPRA)

Purpose and Establishment

The Federation of Asia-Pacific Retailers Associations (FAPRA) was established in 1983 with the aim of fostering collaboration among retail associations across the Asia-Pacific region. Its objectives include discussing common challenges, promoting information exchange, and strengthening mutual understanding, thereby contributing to the development of commerce, enhancing the status of retailers, and improving the quality of life for citizens in the region. In October 1989, following the 4th Asian Retailers Convention & Exhibition held in Singapore, FAPRA was formally institutionalized as an organization, solidifying its role in uniting retail associations throughout the Asia-Pacific.

To recognize outstanding achievements in the retail sector within the Asia-Pacific region, the FAPRA Awards were established in 2009. These awards are presented during the APRCE to honor member companies that have demonstrated excellence in various aspects of retailing.

Permanent Secretariat

Initially, FAPRA's secretariat responsibilities rotated among member countries. Subsequently, the China General Chamber of Commerce and the Philippine Retailers Association served as the permanent secretariat. Currently, the Indonesian Retail Merchants Association and the Sri Lanka Retailers Association jointly manage the secretariat on an interim basis, with support from the Executive Director of the Thai Retailers Association, who serves as the Caretaker Secretary.
